UNAIR inaugurates new doctors, emphasizes integrity and morality in digital era

UNAIR NEWS – The Faculty of Medicine (FK) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held the 4th Inauguration of New Doctors of 2025. The ceremony, took place solemnly at the Faculty of Medicine Auditorium at the Dharmahusada-A Campus on Wednesday (Nov. 5, 2025). The inauguration marks a pivotal milestone for graduates as they officially earn the title of medical doctor and prepare to serve the community.

Representing the rector, Prof. Dr. Drs. Koko Srimulyo, M.Si, Vice Rector for Entrepreneurial Ecosystem and Business Development, congratulated the new doctors and their families. In his remarks, he underscored that UNAIR graduates must consistently uphold the university’s core value: Excellence with Morality, a noble tradition that defines its identity.

“We may be intelligent and accomplished, but morality must remain embedded in our daily lives. Excellence with morality is not merely a tagline; it is a life principle that must be preserved wherever you serve,” Prof. Srimulyo stated.

He further stressed that the title of “doctor” is not solely an academic accomplishment, but a profound responsibility that demands integrity and accountability. “Hold firmly to the Indonesian medical code of ethics. Integrity is non-negotiable, our words and actions must remain aligned,” he advised.

Prof. Srimulyo also highlighted the importance of readiness in facing rapid societal shifts, especially in technology and artificial intelligence (AI). “Doctors operate in an ever-changing environment. AI is here, and we must inevitably adapt. The best way to shape the future is to start creating it now,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Dean of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Eighty Mardiyan Kurniawati, dr., SpOG-K, offered warm congratulations to the new doctors. She extended her appreciation to the graduates and the families who supported their long journey to this moment.

Prof. Kurniawati emphasized that success is never instantaneous, but the result of perseverance and continuous effort. “Success is not achieved with a single attempt; it comes through falling and rising again,” she said.

She cited an example of a newly inaugurated doctor who began their studies in 2012, an illustration that unwavering determination is essential in the long path to becoming a physician.

Furthermore, Prof. Kurniawati reminded graduates that being part of UNAIR is an honor, yet pride alone is not enough. “UNAIR has achieved countless distinctions, and I hope those achievements surround all of you. The accomplishments of FK UNAIR and the university reflect our commitment to the nation,” she noted.

Concluding her address, Prof. Kurniawati reiterated the importance of safeguarding moral, spiritual, and ethical integrity in the medical profession. “It’s not only about intelligence and knowledge, but also about upholding moral and spiritual values. Please do not lose the spirit to continue learning and keeping pace with change,” she said.
