UNAIR NEWS – Rapid advancements in science and the accelerating development of artificial intelligence (AI) have raised concerns that AI might one day replace educators such as teachers and lecturers.

However, Professor of Sociology of Education at FISIP UNAIR, Prof. Dr. Tuti Budirahayu, Dra., M.Si., argues that such fears are overly simplistic. “If we worry that AI will replace our roles as teachers and lecturers, I believe that is too naïve. As humans, if we depend entirely on robots or AI, we risk losing our very identity,” she stated.

AI as a tool, not a replacement:

– AI cannot replicate the human soul, empathy, or lived experience.

– Educators remain essential as guides, information filters, and providers of meaning in the learning process.

The vital role of educators in the AI era:

– Continuously learning and growing to stay relevant in a rapidly changing technological landscape.

– Strengthening competencies, including digital literacy and the wise use of AI.
