UNAIR NEWS – The Faculty of Advanced Technology and Multidiscipline (FTMM), Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), through the Instrumentation and Energy Research Community (IMERCY), conducted a community service program at Astana Jabal Sirr, Wotanmasjedong Village, Mojokerto Regency. The team installed a Smart Solar Dryer Dome from February 20 to March 15, 2026.
Alfananda Ardiansyah, person in charge (PIC) of The 6th Innovillage, explained that the IMERCY community service activity was a solution to farmers’ drying problems, which previously could not be resolved due to weather constraints. In addition, the program aimed to increase the added value of agricultural products.
“The reason we carried out this community service activity in Wotanmasjedong Village was to solve the problem of harvest products that often failed to dry or were damaged due to rain. If the harvest is not dry, the selling price to collectors will decrease. However, if it is dry and has good quality, products such as ginger can be processed into powder,” said Ardiansyah.

Smart Solar Dryer Dome, innovation by IMERCY
The Smart Solar Dryer Dome is a solar-powered drying device shaped like a greenhouse, commonly used to dry food products. Muhammad Naufal Al-Hasani, General Manager of IMERCY, explained that the Smart Solar Dryer Dome created by IMERCY is equipped with IoT technology to monitor room temperature and includes a heater powered by renewable energy (EBT).
“We implemented the Smart Solar Dryer Dome after conducting a field survey. After discussion and planning, we agreed to apply this technology. The advantage of our technology lies in the addition of an IoT system to monitor the temperature inside the drying house and the presence of a heater to support the drying process,” said Al-Hasani.
The implementation of the Smart Solar Dryer Dome has proven to provide real benefits for farmers in Wotanmasjedong Village. The technology helps maintain the quality of harvest products, which contributes to improving farmers’ economic conditions. In addition, the presence of the Smart Solar Dryer Dome encourages farmers to cultivate other commodities such as medicinal plants and various fruits.
