UNAIR Rector raises concerns over UTBK cheating risks

UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has reiterated its commitment to delivering a Computer-Based Written Examination (UTBK) that is inclusive, well-organized, and grounded in integrity. The statement was delivered by Head of UNAIR UTBK Center 2026, Prof. Ir. Mochammad Amin Alamsjah, MSi PhD, during the UTBK kick-off on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

Prof. Alamsjah stated that the UTBK is scheduled to take place over a 10-day period, from April 21 to April 30, 2026. A total of 16,672 participants will take the exam at UNAIR. “This figure represents 94.7 percent of the total capacity of 17,600 seats provided,” he stated.

He added that the exam will be conducted across 19 sessions at Campus B and Campus C of UNAIR, covering 10 buildings and 22 CBT rooms. At Campus B, the test locations include the Faculty of Economics and Business, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Psychology, and Faculty of Vocational Studies (Buildings A and C). At Campus C, the sessions will be held at the New Student Admissions Center (PPMB), Nano Building, Nani Building, and Faculty of Public Health.

Prof. Alamsjah also highlighted that all venues are equipped with transit rooms and provide light refreshments, including warm tea and bread, for morning session participants. “We understand that many morning participants may not have time for breakfast as they must arrive early. These facilities are provided so they can focus better during the exam. This is a significant step in supporting their comfort,” he said.

UNAIR also ensured accessible testing arrangements for participants with disabilities, particularly those with physical, hearing, and speech impairments. These participants will be assigned to Campus C and supported with dedicated assistance. Records show that 18 participants with hearing impairments and four with physical disabilities will take the exam at the Nano Building.

Meanwhile, UNAIR Rector, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Madyan, SE MSi MFin, emphasized the importance of maintaining public and government trust in the implementation of UTBK. He urged all committee members to anticipate potential cheating risks, particularly impersonation practices.

“This trust must be safeguarded to the fullest. I ask all committee members to remain highly vigilant against impersonation. Although this is a longstanding issue, the methods used have become increasingly sophisticated. We must anticipate all possible risks to ensure the integrity of the examination is upheld,” Prof. Madyan stressed.

In addition to security concerns, Prof. Madyan also instructed the provision of adequate prayer facilities near the examination sites, considering that participants are required to arrive as early as 6 a.m.

“Hopefully, the event will run smoothly and we will all be granted good health,” he concluded.
