UNAIR NEWS – Health development requires cross-sector collaborations to ensure equitable access to services for all members of society. This was stated by Diah Lenggogeni ST MSc, a Director of Public Health and Nutrition of Bappenas, at the SDGs Connect 11th IAC Meeting and 5th Health Promotion International.

This event was held on Wednesday (October 15, 2026) at Garuda Mukti Hall, 5th floor, Management Office, MERR-C Campus Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR). In her presentation, Lenggogeni explained that the integration of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into national planning continues to be strengthened.

“SDGs are not not just another document, they are an integral part of how Indonesia plans, budgets, and implements development across various sectors going forward,” she explained.

Although progress has been made, improvements in health quality of Indonesia still face various challenges. These include high maternal mortality rates among live births, a rising incidence of tuberculosis (TBC), and an increasing prevalence of obesity among adults.

Furthermore, Lenggogeni also highlighted environmental issues related to public health. One of these is access to sanitation and national waste management. According to her, these issues demonstrate that improving health cannot rely solely on medical services.

“Health issues cannot be solved by health sector alone. Income, education, housing, food, clean water, transportation, and the environment all play a role in determining the public health condition,” she said.

Lenggogeni emphasized the importance of One Health approach which integrates human health, animals, and the environment. This approach is a part of Indonesia’s long-term development strategy, which aims to achieve a life expectancy of 80 years by 2045.

“Higher education institutions have strategic roles in integrating SDGs and One Health in education, promoting interdisciplinary research, and establishing evidence-based policy recommendations,” she concluded.
