UNAIR NEWS – Four students from the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), won first place in the Business Model Canvas (BMC) competition at TOBUTIVE (Tourism Business Creative) 2026. Fitri Nur Alfiyah (Economics, Class of 2025), together with three teammates, Kayla Garnetha Natania (Management, Class of 2025), Kirana Wilda Amalia (Islamic Economics, Class of 2025), and Adhwa Khaira Latifa (Islamic Economics, Class of 2025), took first place on Sunday (October 4, 2026).

Alfiyah said her participation stemmed from problems in the tourism sector. “We created an innovation that had never been developed before, a concept that lets people with disabilities be integrated into a tourist destination,” she said

Alfiyah and her teammates developed an inclusive tourism platform for people with disabilities. The aim was to give them an easier travel experience.

“We believe people with disabilities have an equal right to travel, but there are many things to consider, starting with the availability of access and supporting facilities. So, we are trying to offer a solution through the platform we developed,” Alfiyah said.

The platform also gives recommendations tailored to users’ needs. “On the platform, we also offer tour guides who are, of course, experienced. In addition, users can plan their itinerary through our platform,” she said.

Challenges in the process

The preparation process Alfiyah and her teammates went through was quite long. They began with discussions from the initial idea stage, brainstorming, defining values, and determining the business model.

Alfiyah said she faced her own challenges while developing the idea. “Because the idea is a digital platform, I had quite a hard time developing the app. This was because there were many prototypes I had to learn. After a long revision process, I was finally able to adapt quickly and solve the problem,” Alfiyah explained.

Previously, Alfiyah had joined several similar business competitions, such as BMC and business plan competitions. At that time, however, she was still inexperienced and needed to learn a lot. “I only learned how to apply BMC when I entered PDB (Joint Basic Learning). From there, I decided to look for a Student Activity Unit (UKM) that could deepen my skills in business competitions.”

She then decided to join ACSES (Association of Sharia Economics Studies), a faculty-level Student Activity Unit (UKM-F) for reasoning at FEB UNAIR. “I’m part of a division that focuses on business competitions. Alhamdulillah, there I’ve been able to grow and develop alongside very supportive friends,” Alfiyah said.

She hopes to try the various kinds of business competitions she has never joined. She also hopes to keep achieving in competitions aligned with her future career path.
