UNAIR NEWS – As a world-class university, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) continuously strives to improve its quality. One of its efforts made is to improve the quality of study programs. In this regard, UNAIR’s study programs are set to pursue accreditation from a German institution, ASIIN (Akkreditierungsagentur für Studiengänge der Ingenieurwissenschaften, der Informatik, der Naturwissenschaften und der Mathematik).

The eight study programs aiming for ASIIN accreditation include Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Master’s degree in Fisheries and Marine Biotechnology, Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, and Bachelor’s degree in Physics. The ASIIN accreditation visit took place on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at UNAIR Management Office MERR-C Campus.

Prof. Nurul Barizah, PhD, Head of UNAIR’s Quality Assurance Boatd (BPM), explained that several activities were carried out during the on-site visit. “There were discussions with university leaders to explore strategies for developing the university and its study programs, and strategies for the internationalization process. The assessors had the opportunity to meet with Study Program Coordinators (KPS), stakeholders, alumni, and industry representatives,” she explained.

Ten experts assessed the study programs during the on-site audit. Prof. Barizah stated that UNAIR had been preparing for this agenda for a year.

As a leading university, UNAIR prioritizes the internationalization programs. “The international-scale accreditation of study programs is part of our internationalization efforts,” explained Prof. Barizah. Those internationalization efforts result in the leap of UNAIR rank, which is at 308th in the world based on 2025 QS World University Rankings.

With these eight study programs ready for ASIIN accreditation, the total number of internationally accredited study programs at UNAIR will reach 73 study programs. International accreditation will boost the competency of graduates, enabling them to compete effectively in the global job market. “We hope our graduates can compete in the job markets not only domestically but also globally,” stated Prof. Barizah.

Improving graduate competency is in line with improving the quality of study programs. International accreditation places UNAIR’s study programs on par with those at other leading global universities. “It means our study programs are on the same level as those of other universities accredited by the same institution,” she explained.

Prof. Barizah hoped that with the addition of internationally accredited UNAIR study programs, Indonesian people can have access to high-quality educational institutions. “Our goal is to provide Indonesian society with high-quality educational institutions, institutions accredited excellent domestically and internationally. It aims to create a generation capable of competing in national and global job markets,” she expressed.
