UNAIR NEWS – A student of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), Muh Dziya Ramadhani Alvaro, participated in the Bangkok Climate Action Week (BKKCAW) 2026 which was held on Saturday-Sunday (October 3-11, 2026) in Bangkok, Thailand. Alongside GreenLabZ, the student of the Economics Study Program at UNAIR also introduced the local youth initiatives to address the climate crisis through exhibitions and interactive activities.

GreenLabZ is a youth initiative that focuses on environmental education and climate change. A number of 11 initiatives from various regions presented solutions based on technology, data, indigenous knowledge, and community-driven movements. The concepts developed include water security, indigenous forest protection, peatland restoration, deforestation monitoring, river rehabilitation, and coastal and mangrove conservation.

During the Bangkok Climate Action Week, the GreenLabZ team introduced their youth programs to the visitors through an exhibition. Alvaro contributed in the event’s preparation, ranging from the concept development until the making of interactive contents and activities.

As an UNAIR student who has a strong interest in natural resources and environmental economics, Alvaro believed that this experience is relevant to his academic interests. This event also gave him an opportunity to broaden his knowledge about inter-community environmental movements. “I believed that I could get some new insights or new knowledge from this activity,” he said.

According to Alvaro, younger generations must actively participate in addressing environmental issues. He emphasized the importance of seeking out information and translating knowledge into tangible actions.

“These younger generations must start becoming aware of existing information and turn the information coming your way into tangible impact,” he emphasized.

According to him, a love for the environment must start from our own selves, such as by avoiding littering and reducing vehicles’ pollution by using public transport .

“We cannot simply place the burden of environmental issues on the government. We must start with ourselves, because if it is not us, then who else?” he emphasized.

Following his participation in the activities in Bangkok, Alvaro targeted a broader introduction of GreenLabZ in Indonesia. He also wanted to develop collaborations with various parties and expand educational spaces for younger generations.

“My future target is I will try to introduce GreenLabZ more to the people out there, especially in Indonesia. We also want to collaborate with various parties, including communities and stakeholders, so that education regarding climate and youth issues can reach more young people,” he said.

One of these educational plans is the hosting of a webinar discussing climate and youth issues. Besides, the introduction of GreenLabZ program is planned to continue through the AruSuara Festival in Surabaya, in collaboration with Puan in Action and GreenLabZ. This activity will highlight the issue of water security through rainwater harvesting.

“Do not just receive information, but try to find out how we can contribute. Start with simple things around us, then you can develop it through collaboration so that the impact can be felt more broadly,” he said.
