UNAIR NEWS – Being one of the leading journals at Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), Jurnal Ners of Faculty of Nursing (FKp) held a webinar titled “Fundamental of Publication” on Friday, May 20, 2022. The founder of Jurnal Ners, Prof. Dr. Nursalam MNurs (Hons) shared tips on writing research to qualify for reputable journals.
UNAIR Faculty of Nursing professor said that writing skill is important in publishing journals. According to him, starting to make articles according to interests will bring up good habits in writing.
“Then, try to make a summary and the idea. Then, read. It needs to be done continuously, one hour every day,” he added.
Key topics and references
Prof. Nursalam said that a good topic would be the main capital to produce quality research. Novelty, originality, contribution in theory and practice in a broad scope, and trends are four important components in determining a quality topic.
“The second is references. If you are going to apply to Scopus, you must quote a Scopus journal published in the last five years. Likewise, if you are going to submit to Sinta,” he said.
He also added that researchers can use credible books published in the last ten years as a reference. In writing references, it is also important to pay attention to the 4S (Systematic, Citation, Spelling errors, Sciences or content).
“The use of own language style is very important to avoid rejection from the start,” he said.
Determine research method
Determining the method is important before conducting research. The founder of Jurnal Ners explained that in the use of mix/cross-sectional methods, samples and variables are two important things that need to be considered. the Professor suggested more than three variables.
“Then, experiment. I suggest two intervention groups, of more than thirty each. Interventions need to focus on FITT, frequency, intensity, type, time,” he explained.
Next, qualitative methods. Prof. Nursalam recommends researchers to involve more than twelve participants with more than three themes.
“Then, review methods. I recommend a minimum of three databases, with more than seventeen review articles and twenty-five systematic reviews,” he said. (*)
The Faculty of Nursing professor said that there are four results from a research: international reputable journals, monographs and reference books, modules, and intellectual property rights, as well as products such as instruments, IPR, and patents. It will make it easier for researchers to publish journals on reputable journal sites.
“Without these things, it will be difficult to publish an article in reputable journal,” he concluded.
