UNAIR NEWS – FTMM IRIS Tentan team wins two prestigious AI competitions. The team from the Data Science Technology study program includes Netri Alia Rahmi, Rizki Widianto, and Elzandi Irfan Zikra.
Alia, the team leader of the IRIS Tentan team, explained the competition’s mechanism. “The concept of both competitions was the same. We were required to create AI that is more efficient than existing systems. Our system had to make highly accurate predictions in a short amount of time.”
FTMM IRIS Tentan team wins
Alia recounted their experience participating in the competitions. Her team competed in the finals hosted by IPB and ITB on consecutive days, Saturday (May 4, 2024) and Sunday (May 5, 2024). In both finals, they presented their AI product in the form of a report and a presentation to the judges.
For the IPB competition, the IRIS Tentan FTMM team developed a prediction system for the C1 form in the 2024 presidential election. This system provided high-accuracy predictions in just seven seconds. The judges deemed the system highly innovative and valuable for clients. With this product, the IRIS Tentan team won third place and the Best Presentation award.
The following day, they competed in the ITB finals. Alia explained that they developed a cholesterol level prediction system based on health indicators, demographics, and lifestyle. This system achieved a remarkable 99 percent accuracy rate. The IRIS Tentan FTMM team won third place.
Community support for AI Talent
With these two achievements, Alia expressed optimism about the future of AI development in Indonesia. Her team have proven that Indonesia’s younger generation has significant potential in this field. If more talented and dedicated young people emerge, Indonesia can become a major player in AI and technology in the future.
Alia added that one way to enhance young talent is through active communities. Her team is a part of IRIS, a community focused on the development of data science and artificial intelligence at UNAIR. Through IRIS, the Tentan team received support from mentors and all community members in developing their AI products.
“We are very grateful for this achievement. It is the result of hard work and dedication from the entire team. This win is not just ours but also belongs to IRIS as a driving force and supporter of data science and artificial intelligence development at Universitas Airlangga,” she said.
