UNAIR NEWS – In collaboration with Green Generation Surabaya, dozens of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) students took part in a social activity at Kenjeran Beach, Surabaya. The event, held last weekend, focused on environmental preservation in the Kenjeran Beach area, with a beach cleanup activity.

The event began with a group prayer, an educational session on different types of plastic waste and their decomposition periods, followed by speeches from representatives of the involved organizations. The highlight of the event was an environmental initiative where participants cleaned up trash along the Kenjeran Beach shoreline.

Farra Naqa Althea, a UNAIR student who participated in the event, expressed her joy and pride, especially in having the opportunity to volunteer. She explained that the initiative aimed not only to maintain the beauty of the beach but also to raise public awareness of the importance of environmental cleanliness.

“More importantly, this activity reflects the third principle of Pancasila, which is unity through cooperation for a positive cause,” she said during an interview on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.

Althea also hopes that this initiative can continue regularly and consistently to further engage the public in environmental awareness. She emphasized that such efforts are crucial for maintaining the natural environment, not just at Kenjeran Beach but at other environmental sites in and around Surabaya.

“I sincerely hope that activities like this will persist. We must inspire others to do the same to ensure the preservation of our environment at Kenjeran Beach. I am also grateful to Green Generation Surabaya for creating an organization dedicated to this cause,” concluded the 2024 Public Health student.

The environmental service event concluded with a game designed to encourage participants to build connections by following each other on Instagram. The event was officially closed with a symbolic ceremony and a group photo session.
