UNAIR NEWS – The transformation of the digital financial sector and crypto assets has become one of the crucial strategic pillars in driving national economic growth. The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), worked with the Indonesia Financial Services Authority (OJK) to support this transformation through a Digital Financial Literacy event titled “From Real Assets to Digital Assets: Get to Know Tokenization and Opportunities in Indonesia.”

The event, held on Monday (October 12, 2026) at Fajar Notonegoro Hall, Dharmawangsa-B Campus, UNAIR, was attended by university leaders, including Vice Rector for Resources Prof Dr Ardianto SE MSi Ak CMA CA and his team. Also attending was OJK Chief Executive for Financial Sector Technology Innovation, Digital Financial Assets, and Crypto Assets Supervision Adi Budiarso.

Budiarso explained several key points on digital finance and crypto assets. He said several phenomena will challenge digital finance in the future, namely artificial intelligence (AI), Big Data, Cloud, and Distributed Ledger Technology (ABCD).

“The question I want to ask is: if we have a digital phenomenon like this, a challenge like this, what strategy should we take? How do we respond so that we stay relevant, so that we can be agile?” he stressed.

He further explained that there are strategies that can be applied: Aspiration, Built on Collaboration, Credible Performance, and Dynamic Governance. He stressed the need for big aspirations, learning endlessly, and adaptation so that governance and institutional capacity keep developing alongside the digital era.

“Our aspiration today is that you, ladies and gentlemen, become leaders in Indonesia, a country with extraordinary potential. We must also sharpen one another, nurture one another, and care for one another. Finally, we must have financial inclusion, deepening, pension funds, insurance, capital markets, and banking,” he explained.

Budiarso stressed that East Java has recorded economic growth above the national level, and is even called “Indonesia’s Australia.” According to him, East Java will be one of the pilots for regional economic development programs because it has the capacity to see the potential that exists.

“Let’s have a big vision for East Java. A big vision for Indonesia. Indonesia has the potential to become one of the world’s top five economies by 2045, on par with the UK today,” he said.
