In his welcoming speech, Regent Edistasius Endi SE of West Manggarai expressed his optimism that the collaboration with UNAIR could be a step towards advancing the tourism sector. Moreover, the West Manggarai Regency is currently envisioning Labuan Bajo to become a health tourism destination.

“West Manggarai is undergoing improvements. If Labuan Bajo is booming today, we must acknowledge that it is by the grace of God and the joint efforts of all parties, both central and regional, each contributing in their own way to build Labuan Bajo. Amidst the progress in the tourism sector, we dream that tourism can be aligned with health because if the healthcare sector is adequate, tourists will have comfort when visiting Labuan Bajo,” he said.

“We plan that people will not only visit Labuan Bajo because of its beautiful nature. We are designing and proposing for Labuan Bajo to also become a health tourism destination. I believe that with the signing of this MoU today, we will leave something beneficial and meaningful for the people of West Manggarai Regency. We are aware that we are still far behind, especially in human resources. I ask for your understanding so that our perspective can be sharpened, enabling us to eventually stand on equal footing with our counterparts nationwide,” he added.

Meanwhile, Prof. Nasih warmly welcomed the collaboration offer from the West Manggarai Regency. He hoped for a mutually beneficial partnership between both institutions.

“We warmly welcome and sincerely hope for many things from this collaboration with our friends from West Manggarai. Insha Allah, UNAIR has many to offer, it’s just a matter of choosing what and what mechanism to use, but the key point is that this cooperation must be mutually beneficial, and no one should suffer losses. So, UNAIR benefits and the regency benefits too, and with this collaboration, we anticipate fruitful outcomes and a lasting legacy,” he said.

“Furthermore, regarding the development of West Manggarai Regency, of course, we need to revitalize everything that exists. Our concept is simple. So, suppose we only rely on natural resources. In that case, they will eventually be depleted, so we must promote and develop sustainable economic and welfare resources, especially related to human resources in all its capacities,” he added.
