UNAIR NEWS – Amid intensifying competition among universities worldwide, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has further strengthened its position as one of Indonesia’s leading universities. According to the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities July 2026 Edition, UNAIR retained its third-place ranking nationally while securing the 709th position globally.

Vice Rector for Resources Prof Dr Ardianto SE Ak MSi CMA CA expressed his gratitude for UNAIR’s achievement. According to Prof Ardianto, retaining its position among Indonesia’s top three universities is a source of pride, as the Webometrics Ranking reflects a university’s digital presence and academic contribution on the global stage.

Prof Ardianto explained that the Webometrics Ranking does not simply assess the appearance of a university’s official website. Rather, it measures the extent to which a university expands public access to knowledge while demonstrating academic impact through its publications and digital ecosystem. The ranking is based on three main indicators: Visibility, Openness, and Excellence.

“Visibility measures the impact of web content through external links, while Openness assesses the accessibility of scholarly publications. Excellence, meanwhile, evaluates publication quality based on articles ranked among the most highly cited across various fields of study,” Prof Ardianto explained.

ccording to Prof Ardianto, these three indicators complement one another in strengthening a university’s global reputation and competitiveness. The wider the reach of UNAIR’s information and research outputs, the greater the opportunity for the global community to recognise the university’s contributions to education, research, and community service.

“This ranking is highly relevant to the university’s branding. As our visibility increases, Universitas Airlangga’s reputation becomes more widely recognised by the global community, creating positive momentum for achieving our future targets,” Prof Ardianto added.

Prof Ardianto noted that the greatest challenge lies in the increasingly intense competition among universities worldwide to enhance their digital visibility and the quality of their research publications. To address this, UNAIR continues to strengthen collaboration across its faculties and administrative units to ensure that achievements in the three pillars of higher education are well documented and reach the global community through various digital platforms.

According to Prof Ardianto, UNAIR continues to introduce various initiatives to strengthen its visibility. These efforts are supported by integrated communication and information dissemination across the university’s relevant units. “This achievement is not a reason for complacency but rather a motivation for us to continue strengthening our collaboration. Working together is the best way for Universitas Airlangga to achieve even greater milestones in the future,” Prof Ardianto concluded.
