UNAIR NEWS – The Faculty of Vocational Studies, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) once again achieved notable success at the 11th Olimpiade Vokasi Indonesia (OLIVIA) 2026. At the national competition held at Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA) on Tuesday (August 4, 2026), two UNAIR teams brought home a silver and a bronze medal, while two other teams earned Second Runner-Up honors in separate categories.
Award-winning achievements
Trio Kalem Team placed second (silver medal) in the Scientific Paper: Science and Technology category. Led by Muhammad Naufal Afif (Applied Bachelor of Instrumentation and Control Engineering), together with Isra Dzorifatun Nisa (Applied Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Technology) and Rona Elita Maharani (Applied Bachelor of Occupational Safety and Health), the team developed a real-time workplace climate monitoring and control system based on Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT), integrated with artificial intelligence and thermal computer vision. The innovation is designed to help prevent heat stress among industrial workers through adaptive workplace condition monitoring, while also supporting energy efficiency of up to 20 percent.
Meanwhile, Belum Tidur Team placed third (bronze medal) in the Business Plan category. Led by Roisatul Ummah (Applied Bachelor of Computer Science), together with Nadia Intan Fitriani (Applied Bachelor of Digital Office Management) and Muhammad Afif Nurfaiz (Applied Bachelor of Instrumentation and Control Engineering), the team developed a Smart Ambient Air Controller based on the Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI), combining four main functions in a single device: a dehumidifier, a humidifier, a four-slot essential oil diffuser, and a white noise speaker. The innovation is also equipped with an AI Recommendation Engine capable of learning user habits to automatically deliver more personalized indoor air quality settings.
Thorough preparation
In addition to the two medal wins, the Faculty of Vocational Studies delegation also achieved strong results through 3 Volutions Team, which won Second Runner-Upin the Documentary Video category, and Lomba Terakhir Team, which won Second Runner-Up in the Scientific Paper: Science and Technology category. In total, all four finalist teams brought home awards for the Faculty of Vocational Studies UNAIR at the 11th OLIVIA 2026.
All four teams successfully passed the national selection round before competing in the finals alongside 28 university delegations from across Indonesia. During the preparation period, the Faculty of Vocational Studies provided intensive mentoring and training to help students present their innovations effectively before the judging panel.
Trio Kalem Team leader Muhammad Naufal Afif expressed gratitude for his team’s achievement. “We didn’t expect that our collaboration and hard work would lead to a championship result we’re proud of, one that brings honor to the Faculty of Vocational Studies, Universitas Airlangga,” he said.
Dean of Vocational Studies Prof Dian Yulie Reindrawati PhD expressed her appreciation to all delegations for the success of the two medal-winning teams, as well as the two teams that earned Second Runner-Up honors. She hopes more vocational students will be encouraged to bring their best ideas to a wider range of competitions, noting that the experience of competing, collaborating, and learning alongside Indonesia’s top participants is a valuable investment in both personal and institutional growth.
For the Faculty of Vocational Studies UNAIR, this achievement is expected to motivate students to continue developing innovations that offer real solutions for society, while strengthening the competitiveness of Indonesian vocational education at both the national and international levels.
