UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) students who are members of the Kamsia team won second place in a national essay competition at the Ramadhan Berkah Mardliyyah (RBM) Festival 1447 H. The competition was organized by Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) on March 7, 2026. The Kamsia team consisted of three members: Nurin Mulyani (FISIP), Firaz Athallah Muflih (FKp), and Ghania Kyla Al Hasbi (FKp).
The achievement reflects UNAIR students’ concern for the issue of tolerance, which is often misunderstood in society. This aligns with the statement of team member, Muflih, who said that public perspectives on tolerance remain superficial.
“In daily life, we often encounter tolerance issues being used as a subject of jokes. In fact, tolerance should be understood as a genuine form of respect for existing differences,” Muflih said.
According to Muflih, tolerance among teenagers has gradually eroded in the era of digitalization. This situation encouraged the Kamsia team to develop an innovative essay titled “FAITHVENTURE: An Educational Traveling Community Based on Interactive Tolerance Modules and Digital Content Creation in Interfaith Places of Worship to Build Harmony among Multicultural Indonesian Youth.”
Motivation behind Kamsia team’s participation
Muflih stated that the Kamsia team joined the competition as an opportunity to gain knowledge while improving each member’s performance in scientific writing competitions. In addition, their first experience in writing a scientific paper became one of the main factors that encouraged the team to explore the world of academic competitions.

“Previously, we had already formed a team. When we found information about this competition, we were very enthusiastic about participating and learning more about the field of scientific writing,” Muflih said.
Process of writing
The division of tasks among members helped the Kamsia team carry out the essay-writing process more efficiently. This aligns with the statement from another Kamsia member, Mulyani, who explained that each member was assigned specific targets to complete their respective responsibilities.
“We divided the tasks so that our essay could be completed more quickly. Firaz and I were responsible for conducting deeper research on the topic of tolerance that we raised. Meanwhile, Hasbi, who has editing skills, focused on working on the visualization and design of our product concept,” Mulyani said.
Writing a scientific paper, however, was not a simple process. Hasbi added that they also faced several challenges throughout the process. Differences in class schedules and communication flow became the main obstacles in writing and discussing the team’s progress.
Through the essay competition, the Kamsia team hopes that UNAIR students will have the courage to take steps into the world of scientific writing competitions as they did. “Keep trying by starting from small steps that lead us toward success. Never be afraid to try and never lose spirit while exploring new experiences,” Hasbi said.
