WUACD holds International Community Development to discuss international community services

UNAIR NEWS – The World University Association for Community Development (WUACD) held the International Community Development: “Go East Java 2024” event on Wednesday, Feb 28, 2024, at the Tarumanegara Hall, ASEEC Tower, Campus B UNAIR. The event brought together UNAIR and Universiti Teknologi Malaya (UTM) to discuss the agenda of the international community service program in the Mendiro Hamlet, Panglungan Village, Wonosalam Subdistrict, Jombang Regency, East Java, Indonesia. 

drg. Mega Moeharyono Puteri, PhD, Sp KGA(K), the Coordinator of the WUACD Mobility welcomed the delegates to the City of Heroes, Surabaya. She also extended her gratitude as UNAIR was chosen as the host for this WUACD event.

“Welcome to the City of Heroes, Surabaya. The title ‘City of Heroes’ comes from the struggle of the people of Surabaya against the colonials at that time. The journey to Jombang will take about two hours,” said drg. Mega.

Also attending was Prof Ir Dr. Shahrul Kamal Abdul Rahim, representing UTM. Prof. Kamal explained that he was very happy for the warmest welcome by UNAIR from the moment they arrived at the airport, the hotel, and until they reached UNAIR.

“We are very happy to receive the warm welcome. Starting from our arrival at the airport, being escorted to the hotel, and finally arriving at UNAIR,” said Prof. Shahrul.

He hoped they could learn many soft skills including how to communicate with the community through this activity. He continued that it could be an opportunity for UTM to see the various cultural differences in Indonesia. 

“We hope to learn a lot from the International Community Development: Go East Java 2024 event. Looking at our various cultural differences, the communication styles, between Malaysia and Indonesia. It can be a valuable experience for us,” said Prof. Shahrul. 

Anggie Avrila, the head of the organizing committee for the international community service “Go East Java 2024”, explained that the event will take place from Thursday, Feb 29, 2024, to Sunday, Mar 3, 2024, in the Mendiro Hamlet, Panglungan Village, Wonosalam Subdistrict, Jombang Regency, East Java, Indonesia. She added that the event is one of the work programs of the Community Service Ministry of the Student Executive Board (BEM UNAIR), which will enter its third year.

“The community service in Mendiro Hamlet has been the BEM UNAIR program for the past two years and will enter its third year this time,” said Anggie.

The community service aims to develop the economy and welfare of the people in the Mendiro Hamlet.
