Inspired by His Father, Revy Takes a Career as a Diver

UNAIR NEWS – The idiom “Apple never falls far from the tree,” seems perfect to be addressed to Grananda Revy Pratama, a diver from Faculty of Law, Universitas Airlangga. He has earned a number of diving achievements and one of them is obtaining four gold medals in the event of Provincial Students Athletics Week (Porprov) in 2015.

The numerous achievements that he earned cannot be separated from his father’s profession as a swimming instructor. Since he was little, Revy has been used to watching his father training athletes and going out of town whenever there was a swimming competition.

“I used to watch my father and his students, most of them were athletes, practicing in the swimming pool. When I was little, every time I saw my father coaching, I was dying to join,” said Revy, how he is familiarly called.

Since then, Revy’s interest in swimming started to grow. He has known how to swim since he was four years old.

“I was jealous when I saw my father and his athletes joining a swimming competition, it was like a holiday to me. So it is as if a desire to be an athlete started to grow in me. I think that is how this is all began,” said the man who was born on 13 October 1997.

After mastering the basic techniques, at the age of 15 Revy decided to focus on diving, a sport which is not far different from swimming.

Revy has competed in a number of competitions, such as East Java Diving Regional Championship (Kejurda) from 2011 to 2016 and Diving National Championship (Kejurnas) in Jakarta from 2012 to 2015. Revy also participated in East Java Provincial Students Athletics Week (Porprov) in 2013 and 2015. From all the competitions he participated in, he often earned a champion title.

Revy is committed to his diving career by doing a regular practice every Friday and Saturday. While on working days from Monday to Friday, he uses his time to focus on academic activities in campus.

However, the training schedule of the man with 176 cm height is getting tighter lately. He practices regularly from Monday to Saturday because of semester holiday that he is having.

Even though he is quite busy with his non-academic activities, education is still a priority for Revy. “I keep my parents’ advice in mind. Education is always number one,” said the man who has been a member of Pas Aquatic club since 2011.

Consequently, since Revy never stops to prove that he pays attention to his education, he always gets full support from both of his parents. (*)
