UNAIR NEWS – Education is the weapon to change the world. The importance of education encourages IKAMMA (Malang Students Association) and ORMADA (Regional Students Organization) Malang to introduce universities even to remote areas. Along with that, IKAMMA UNAIR holds a roadshow to several senior high schools (SMA) in Great Malang. This is an annual event which aims to introduce Universitas Airlangga. Moreover, this also becomes a media to assist junior students of 12th grade to choose a major and university for their further study.
A roadshow entitled CAMPEX 2017 UNAIR UKLAM MALANG VOL. 2 was held during semester break, 21-28 January 2017. The first roadshow was held on 21 January 2017 at SMA 1 Sumberpucung, Malang Regency. Then it was continued on 23 January at SMAN 1 and SMAN 7 Malang, and on 25 January at SMA Kolese Santo Yusuf. In the future agenda, UNAIR UKLAM MALANG will also pay a visit to SMAN 5 Malang, MAN 1 Malang, and SMAK St. Albertus Malang (SMA Dempo) in Malang Municipality.
Even though they had to endure a long trip under the blazing sun, Arra Hamdan, Iwa Safira et al were not discouraged to present the ins and outs of UNAIR; from its supporting facilities, majors, to its achievements. To Iwa, motivating juniors to get to know UNAIR and encouraging them to study so that they get an entrance to PTN is a form of holiday.
“It is a pleasure for me to share experience about college, campus life, and particularly about UNAIR,” said Arra Hamdan, the event’s Project Officer.
“The senior high school students’ enthusiasm is very high. They don’t only listen to the material, but also raise questions and are curious about UNAIR,” Arra added.
Arra Hamdan explained that senior high school students in Malang still underestimate UNAIR. The factor of ignorance is the fundamental reason so they do not understand about UNAIR’s potentials. There are many unknown outstanding majors, yet most of the school students only know about the Faculty of Medicine. Therefore, this kind of event is expected to improve their understanding about UNAIR.
Besides IKAMMA, there is ORMADA which is also participated in branding UNAIR in their regions. This all is a form of dedication from UNAIR students for their beloved campus. (*)
