UNAIR NEWS – Enthusiasm seen from the faces of participants of ASEAN +3 Youth Conference and Cultural Program (AAYCCP) 2017, on Wednesday, November 22. Located at Airlangga Convention Center (ACC) Campus C Universitas Airlangga, they followed the cultural parade as part of AAYCCP 2017 series starting from Monday to Wednesday, November 20-23.
In the cultural parade, the participants were introduced to Indonesian culture, from music to the traditional game. For traditional music, they were introduced to gamelan instruments such as saron, demung, gong, kendang, bonang, and kenong.
They were also given the opportunity to play some gending, Javanese songs, dolanan. Traditional games such as engklek, jump rope, and bekel also introduced and played by the participants. In fact, in other posts, they can be creative with canting on a prepared white cloth.
Guided by batik crafters from one of the batik houses in Mojokerto, participants followed the direction seriously of making batik, from drawing patterns, staining stage, to drying stage.
“It’s really amazing. Although it was difficult initially on the details, I am very happy to learn. Making Batik is very fun, “said Marcel, one participant from Togo, West Africa, after learning to make batik.
Event Coordinator Nadia Syifa Widjaksono said that AAYCCP 2017 is one of the first international event held BEM KM UNAIR through collaboration between the Ministry of external relations and scholarship. In addition to supporting UNAIR achieving Top 500, he added, the event was a form of support for the United Nations (UN) program.
“This is the first BEM international event . Which consists of activities of science, culture, and togetherness. Thus, the proportion of activities is balanced, educational and fun . This cultural parade was a form of BEM cultural diplomacy to participants from various countries, ” he said.
Before the cultural parade, FGDs (focus group discussion) was done. There were presentations and discussion papers from the participants related to problems in various points of view.
Nadia added that in the discussions and presentations, several categories of winners were selected. Such as best paper; best speakers I, II, and III; most innovative person; most outstanding person; as well as most solutive FGD team. In fact, the total prize reached 15 million.
“So, after the events are over. From the first day of gala dinner at Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini’s official house, the second day of international seminar, FGD and cultural parade held today, and tomorrow’s closing at Hall Management Office Building. The results, especially from papers,discussions, seminars and forum sharing , will be brought to ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta by BEM, “explained the student of international relations in 2016. (*)
