UNAIR NEWS – The teams of Student Softball Universitas Airlangga , both men and women team, must be satisfied as runner-ups in the national inter-college softball championship “Airlangga Cup”, 20-26 November 2017. In the match at softball field of Surabaya Jl. Dharmawangsa, UNAIR’s men team surrendered from the team of Universitas Gajah Mada (UGM) with 3-1 in a 7 inning match . While the UNAIR’s women team surrendered from the team of Yogyakarta State University (UNY).
Bebe Brawijaya, Head of “Airlangga Cup” Committee said that he was not satisfied with this result as both UNAIR teams reached the final and only got runner-ups.
“We will train harder so this ‘revenge’ is paid and be champions in a similar event next year,” added Bebe, a reliable first base player .
“Airlangga Cup” is organized by Student Activity Unit (UKM) of UNAIR Softball is attended by seven college teams from various regions in Indonesia. They are the Softball teams of Universitas Gajah Mada Yogyakarta (UGM), Universitas Islam Indonesia Yogyakarta (Unisi / UII), Yogyakarta State University (UNY), Universitas Negeri Surabaya (Unesa), 10 November Technology Institute (ITS), Universitas Brawijaya Malang (UB ), and host of UNAIR Surabaya.
Full results “Airlangga Cup”, in the men category : UGM in the first place, UNAIR Surabaya in the second place, and UNESA Surabaya in the third place. While in the women category, UNY Yogyakarta won the first place, UNAIR Surabaya in the second place, and ITS Surabaya in the third place.
He hoped “Airlangga Cup” can be an annual event. He admitted that this festive activity happened thanks to the support of all parties, especially thanks to the Rector of UNAIR, Indonesian Baseball and Softball Association (Perbasasi) Surabaya, and Youth and Sports Agency (Dispora) Surabaya.
Head of Perbasasi Surabaya, Yayuk Dossy Iskandar, before handing trophies to the champions, on Sunday, November 26 hoped that this “Airlangga Cup” will mark the rising moment of student softball scene in Indonesia.

“It’s the right moment, we must seize it. We must retain the spirit so softball sports among the academic community at campuses continue to grow and develop. Moreover, inter-university softball championship has long been a vacuum. The last one was 16 years ago and only this time organized again by UNAIR Softball UKM. It is quite an achievement, “said Yayuk, former national sofball athlete and former coach of UNAIR UKM team.
After this Perbasasi Surabaya will hold “New Year Game” event which will be followed by softball clubs in Surabaya. It is planned to be held on December 31, from morning till night as well as welcoming the New Year 2018, in this nice Softball Dharmawangsa Square. The committee is currently preparing licenses and schedules.
Head of Perbasasi Surabaya hoped that achievement and quality improvement of athletes will be organized continuously and more events held.
“Therefore, on behalf of the Softball-Baseball family of Surabaya, we would like to thank Airlangga University for this event, as well as the support of Surabaya City Government for the availability of international quality field facilities and can be used to play at night,” said Yayuk Dossy, alumna of FH UNAIR.
Before the final match of Airlangga Cup, the committee in collaboration with Perbasasi Surabaya held Old Cracks Game, Slow Pitch Softball game as a reunion of softball men players in Surabaya with hostile competition.
“Now we are averagely 45 years old. So this game is a reunion, many coming from Jakarta, Bandung and Yoogjakarta just to play Slow Pitch. The hit well but, but they could not run fast anymore, “said Adi Gunawan Putranto, ITS Old Cracks players.
“For example Mas Ampuh Baboe who is now in the Management of Perbasasi. He used to be the flagship player of UNAIR, he came from Jakarta to play Slow Pitch in Cobra team against Surabaya Selection, “added Gunawan. (*)
