UNAIR NEWS – Faculty of Vocational Studies (FV) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) organized a community service program titled “PINTAR-TB (Penguatan Kapasitas Kader melalui Integrasi Terapi Herbal Adjuvan dan Literasi Radiologi dalam Mendukung Penanggulangan Tuberkulosis)” on Friday-Saturday (October 9-10, 2026) in Tegalsari District, Banyuwangi Regency. This program served as UNAIR’s contribution in supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being).

This program is a collaboration with Puskesmas (Community Health Center) Tegalsari in order to improve health cadres’ capacities in prevention, early detection, and assistance of tuberculosis (TB) patients. Based on the data of the Banyuwangi Regency Government, 3,057 casesTB cases were recorded in 2025, an increase from 2,940 cases in 2024.

The program was opened by the Head of Puskesmas Tegalsari, Nunuk Sulistyawati SSTKeb, along with the Community Service Leader, Alifatus Wahyu Nur Ma’rifah STrKes MT.

“Through PINTAR-TB, we want to provide the cadres with applicative knowledge ranging from understanding TB disease, radiology examination, and the utilization of herbs as an adjuvant therapy. The cadres play an important role in providing precise education to the community,” said Ma’rifah.

The PINTAR-TB program provides an education session about tuberculosis by Aisyah Widayani ST MT, literacy on thorax radiography examination by Alifatus Wahyu Nur Ma’rifah STrKes MT, and the utilization of herbal adjuvant by Dr Iif Hanifah Nurrosyidah SFarm Apt MFarm.

Beside material presentations, the cadres also participated in the demonstration of Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA) uses that is available around the Puskesmas Tegalsari. This activity introduced the potential of local resources as the tool for health education by emphasizing that herbs do not replace the antituberculosis medication.

This demonstration activity was also supported by Ayub Manggala Putra STrKes MSc, a lecturer from Radiology Imaging Technology program, and Rizky Amalia Sinulingga SAk MAB, a lecturer from the Business Department of UNAIR Faculty of Vocational Studies. Rayhan and Bagus, students from Radiology Imaging Technology program, along with Rizki, a student from Traditional Medication program, also participated in this program.

As the program’s output, the UNAIR team handed over PINTAR-TB pocket books and herbal products to Puskesmas Tegalsari. This pocket book was designed as a simple guidebook for the cadres in providing health education to the community.

One of the health cadres from Tegalsari Village, Ani Sulistyo, said that this program provides additional knowledge about radiology examination. “The material is very useful, especially the material about thorax radiography examination that we didn’t understand well previously. The pocket book is also very helpful because we can use it during the education session to the community,” said Sulistyo.

This program was also equipped with pre-test and post-test to evaluate participants’ understandings. Other than supporting SDG 3, this program also contributed to SDG 4 through health literacy improvement and SDG 17 through the partnership between the university and health service facility.

Through PINTAR-TB, UNAIR Faculty of Vocational Studies hope that the cadres will be more empowered in raising public awareness and supporting sustainable TB control efforts in Banyuwangi.
