APHSA BEM FKM UNAIR promotes healthy living to prevent hypertension in Jombang

UNAIR NEWS – In an effort to support the improvement of public health, the Community Service Division of APHSA BEM FKM Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) once again demonstrated its commitment through the BULIS International Health Media Promotion Competition and Live In 2025. Carrying the theme Together Against Hypertension: A Healthy Lifestyle for a Better Community, the programme served as a concrete initiative to promote preventive and promotive efforts in addressing hypertension. The initiative also aligned with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being.

BULIS was held from February 27 to October 12, 2025. The programme consisted of two main activities: the BULIS International Health Media Promotion Competition and BULIS Live In, a community service initiative. The competition took place from Monday (May 26, 2025) to Friday (June 20, 2025) and featured three categories: Health Promotion Video, Health Promotion Media, and Health Opinion Writing. The competition targeted participants from various educational levels, ranging from senior high school students to university students.

BULIS International finalists deliver their presentations

In addition to the competition, BULIS 2025 also featured BULIS Live In, which took place in Banjardowo Village, Jombang District, Jombang Regency, from Sunday (November 9, 2025) to Monday (November 10, 2025). The community service programme successfully fostered cross-sector collaboration among FKM UNAIR students, international students from UPN Veteran Jawa Timur’s partner institutions from Pakistan, Nigeria, the Solomon Islands, and Yemen, as well as healthcare workers, community health volunteers, village officials, and local residents.

Through BULIS 2025, students carried out community empowerment initiatives through health education, health screening training with community health volunteers, the distribution of supplementary food programmes (PMT), medicinal plants (TOGA), social assistance packages, and health check-ups. The programme also represented a tangible contribution to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3, Good Health and Well-Being, which emphasises the importance of ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for people of all ages. Furthermore, the involvement of various stakeholders including students, healthcare workers, community health volunteers, village officials, and international students reflected a spirit of collaboration aligned with SDG 17, Partnership for the Goals, which focuses on strengthening partnerships to achieve sustainable development objectives. In achieving its objectives, BULIS 2025 attracted a total of 161 participants to the BULIS International Health Media Promotion Competition. Meanwhile, the BULIS Live In 2025 programme also generated strong enthusiasm among residents of Banjardowo Village, Jombang, with more than 100 community members participating in the activities.

Contributions of international student volunteers to the event

BULIS 2025 was expected to encourage young generations to develop innovations by creating impactful health promotion media and improving the community’s quality of healthy living through daily health activities and lifestyle practices. The experience of collaborating with 10 international student volunteers was also expected to serve as a bridge that opened opportunities to introduce the activities and culture of Banjardowo Village, Jombang District, Jombang Regency, to international communities.
