UNAIR NEWS – In an effort to provide students with insights into the professional world, Digistar Connect organized a webinar titled The Corporate Blueprint: Building Your High-Brand Career with LinkedIn for Universitas Airlangga students. The event invited Lilies Nuraini, an HC Management Specialist at Telkom Indonesia, and was held online on Saturday, March 7, 2026.
During the webinar, Nuraini explained the importance of having strong personal branding amid the increasingly competitive job market. Personal branding is not only essential for self-presentation but is also one of the key factors’ companies use to assess an individual’s potential. Therefore, it is important for students and fresh graduates to develop strong personal branding in order to increase their opportunities to enter the workforce.
Importance of personal branding for students
In the opening session, Nuraini explained that building personal branding can be achieved through several key principles. The first principle is specialization, which means focusing on one’s main expertise. Leadership is also an important aspect, as it demonstrates how a person handles and resolves challenges in real situations. In addition, personal branding should stem from authentic traits, highlighting unique characteristics that distinguish an individual from others.
Furthermore, personal branding also reflects an individual’s active involvement in real-world activities. The process of building value should align with one’s genuine character, be carried out consistently, and be supported by positive behavior to establish a good reputation in the public eye. By applying these principles, individuals can build a strong and sustainable professional image.
Why personal branding should not be overlooked
In her presentation, Nuraini emphasized that personal branding is no longer merely an option but a necessity in the digital era. This is because around 70–80 percent of recruiters use digital platforms such as social media and LinkedIn to search for and assess candidates who are suitable for their companies. Through an individual’s digital footprint, recruiters can observe the reputation a person has built as well as activities that support their potential performance in the workplace.
Furthermore, Nuraini explained that a clear and consistent profile can open more opportunities. Companies tend to be more interested in individuals who are able to demonstrate their values and potential in a professional manner.
