UNAIR NEWS – To improve the employability of its graduates, the Faculty of Humanities (FIB) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) hosted an Alumni Media Gathering. The event was held on Thursday, July 11, 2024, in the Tarumanegara Room, ASEEC Tower, Dharmawangsa – B Campus, UNAIR. Attendees included FIB leaders and alumni from various media and public relations sectors.

Prof. Dr. Purnawan Basundoro, Dean of FIB, stated that the gathering was organized to boost the employability of graduates. He also highlighted that the impact of UNAIR alumni, especially those from FIB, needs improvement through effective branding.

“This event aims to increase employability, which was rated highest in the recent QS World University Rankings. However, our alumni impact is still not adequately recorded by the media. We need to maximize our efforts to improve this,” he stated during the event’s opening.

Nuri Hermawan MHum, the event’s chairperson, concurred with Prof. Basundoro’s remarks. As a lecturer in the Indonesian Language and Literature program, Hermawan mentioned that the gathering served both as a networking opportunity and a chance to gather feedback from alumni to help FIB improve the quality and employability of its graduates.

“The primary goal is networking. Additionally, several programs will be redesigning their curricula soon. We hope our alumni can provide input on how these programs can produce graduates with high employability,” said Nuri.

FIB partnered with the Directorate of Career Development, Entrepreneurship Incubation, and Alumni Affairs (DPKKA) to organize the gathering. Rizky Amalia MH, Head of Alumni Affairs at DPKKA, emphasized that employability and alumni impact play significant roles in UNAIR’s ranking. Therefore, DPKKA continually promotes efforts to enhance alumni branding.

“Our aim is to introduce our alumni on both national and international stages. This activity is closely related to how we can brand FIB graduates and others,” Rizky added.

Ezith Perdana Estafeta MHum, Secretary of FIB UNAIR Alumni Association (IKA), pointed out that FIB alumni are spread across various regions in Indonesia and abroad. Given this wide distribution, Ezith emphasized the importance of networking among alumni.

“Our alumni are everywhere, in Sumatra, Kalimantan, and even overseas. This broad network can be a valuable asset for recent graduates to connect not only with FIB alumni but also with alumni from across UNAIR,” said Ezith.

Ezith hopes that the gathering will serve as a platform for networking and creating collaboration opportunities among alumni.
