Learning to process livestock products, Lamongan MSME owners find inspiration for new products

UNAIR NEWS – Taking part in a livestock product processing workshop at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH), Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), on Tuesday (September 29, 2026), became a new experience for Devi, an MSME owner who runs Navid Snack and Catering in Deket District, Lamongan. Beyond sharpening her skills, the workshop also gave her inspiration to develop new products for her business.

Devi said this was her first time joining a workshop organized by FKH UNAIR. She had never processed duck egg or meat, or goat milk, into ready-to-sell products before.

“This is my first time joining a workshop on making chlorella noodles from duck meat, and goat milk yogurt. This gives me inspiration going forward to create more creative and varied products. We might develop it into chips or something else to sell,” she said during the workshop at the Lamongan Regency Government Office Yard.

According to Devi, the ingredients used in making the noodles were especially interesting. She was previously more familiar with noodles made from ingredients like flour and eggs, while the workshop introduced her to other ingredients she considered unique and nutritionally valuable. “The result was delicious, really satisfying, and surprisingly, when we made the noodles ourselves, they came out chewy, just like the ones we buy,” she said.

Devi also considered the knowledge she gained to be relevant to her food and catering business. She saw that the results of the workshop could be developed into products she could offer her customers.

“If we get food or catering orders, we can make chlorella noodles like the ones we made today. The same goes for yogurt orders; we can make it ourselves,” she said.

Involving Lamongan’s signature MSMEs

Prof Dr Widjiati drh MSi, head of the program, said the workshop marked the first step in a series of Assisted Village programs run by FKH UNAIR. The activities targeted not only the Family Welfare and Empowerment (PKK) women’s group, but also MSME owners, so that the training outcomes could develop into local products.

“We hope MSMEs can develop this into a signature local product of Lamongan. The goal is for this workshop to have a lasting, sustainable impact, so that this collaboration can benefit the community, institutions, and the government alike,” she explained.

Devi hoped similar workshops could continue, supported by ongoing mentoring for MSMEs. That way, the knowledge gained wouldn’t stop at the workshop experience, but instead develops into real business opportunities.
