UNAIR NEWS – UNAIR leaderships once again held a coordination meeting on Monday, October 19, 2026, at the 1st Floor Hall, Management Building, to evaluate performance in the third quarter of 2026. The meeting was attended by UNAIR Rector Prof Dr Muhammad Madyan SE MSi MFin, the Chair and Secretary of the UNAIR Academic Senate, the vice rectors and university secretary, the chairs and secretaries of boards, the deans and vice deans, the directors and secretaries of directorates, and the chairs and secretaries of institutes and centers within UNAIR.

Opening the remarks session, UNAIR Academic Senate Chair Prof Dr Nursalam MNurs (Hons) offered several suggestions regarding the university’s performance. He hoped that education, research, and community service would continue to be kept on track as well as possible. He also emphasized the university flagship program on the Entrepreneurial University. “I want to emphasize that the Rector has a flagship program, particularly related to the Entrepreneurial University. I hope we can all support and strengthen the direction of the Rector policy,” he said.

Head of Academic Senate also added that university support can be formulated into three forms of investment. “The first investment, which I believe we have already made, especially in maintaining UNAIR performance in the World University Rankings, relates to reputation and integrity. In any situation, we must uphold our reputation and integrity,” he added. According to him, the second investment is in enhancing student competencies related to creativity, collaboration, and communication. “The third investment I’d like to highlight is how we build collaboration and cooperation with all parties. Because that is where success truly lies, no matter the circumstances. If we have good relationships and good partners, both internally and externally, I believe we must continue to strengthen them,” continued Prof. Nursalam.

Rector directives

UNAIR Rector began his remarks by highlighting UNAIR decline in the Times Higher Education rankings. “This is a situation in which we must conduct an evaluation. Although we dropped one place compared to last year, I believe the cause needs to be thoroughly evaluated,” he said.

According to Prof Madyan, in addition to citations, research commercialization also needs to be enhanced. “Well, this is something for all of us to take note of. How can research results be commercialized in the future, and how can we establish partnerships or collaborations with industry? “One of the core elements of an Entrepreneurial University is university-industry collaboration that can increase non-tuition revenue for the university,” he added. Continuing on the topic of the need to increase university revenue, Prof Madyan provided several guidelines regarding the International Undergraduate Program, graduate programs, and the optimization of revenue-generating units at Universitas Airlangga.

After the Head of Planning and Development Board, Prof Dian Ekowati SE, MSi, MAppCom(OrgCh) PhD, presented more details on UNAIR achievements in the third quarter, meeting continued in breakout sessions organized by four fields. In his closing remarks, UNAIR Rector Prof Madyan offered several suggestions to accelerate the transformation of UNAIR into an Entrepreneurial University. In addition to optimizing internship programs for students, he also proposed inviting professional practitioners to motivate students enrolled in courses related to entrepreneurship.

“I think it makes a difference when practitioners directly deliver this message to students, rather than academics who may not have enough practical experience to pass on to students. So it shouldn’t just be professors. Professors are necessary, of course, but entrepreneurs might be more engaging through sharing sessions and motivational talks with students. This can inspire students to become entrepreneurs in various fields right from the start of their first semester at university,” he added.

At the end, Prof Madyan closed the Leadership Coordination Meeting by expressing his hopes. “I hope that all leaders at Universitas Airlangga will work together to be more productive and effective, and strive for better performance so that Universitas Airlangga can maintain or improve its ranking in the future,” he concluded.
