UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), through its Postgraduate School, reaffirmed its commitment to improving public services by hosting a Public Discussion and Aspiration Forum on the Indonesian National Police Reform Agenda. The event was held on Thursday (Nov 27, 2025) at the Airlangga Sharia and Entrepreneurship Education Center (ASEEC) Tower on the Dharmawangsa-B Campus.
During the forum, UNAIR Vice Rector for Academic, Student and Alumni Affairs, Prof Ir Mochamad Amin Alamsjah MSi PhD, praised the initiative. He noted that the discussion reflects a growing openness between state institutions and the public in addressing key national issues.
“This forum is a strategic step toward strengthening the direction of police reform in Indonesia, particularly in governance, one of the fundamental pillars of democracy. We hope this space can capture public insights and perspectives essential to advancing police reform,” he said.
Multi-stakeholder collaboration
Prof Alamsjah stressed that police reform cannot be carried out by a single institution. Instead, it requires collaboration among the police, academia, and the wider community. He highlighted UNAIR’s significant contribution through its master’s program in Police Studies.
“This program plays an important role in providing academic and public dialogue. Universities serve as centers for scientific inquiry, offering research-based recommendations to support national progress,” he explained.
He added that police reform extends beyond structural changes. It also involves legal culture, public trust, and institutional governance. Reform efforts must continue to address contemporary challenges, including law enforcement practices, the adoption of AI, and the modernization of public services.
“We see this forum as an opportunity to bring together multiple viewpoints to produce constructive, practical, and sustainable solutions. We hope the event yields valuable recommendations for all stakeholders and contributes meaningfully to the ongoing police reform agenda,” he concluded.
