UNAIR NEWS – Students of the Department of Historical Science, Faculty of Humanities (FIB) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) have successfully won the national 1st place in scientific paper category at the PSYCHONATION 2026, which organized by Faculty of Psychology Universitas Negeri Malang, on Friday (September 18, 2026). Abdullah Muhammad Irsyad Syafiudin and Kesya Azka Najhan achieved this success through a paper that discussed Artificial Intelligence (AI) educational research mapping and its relation with the Kurikulum Merdeka.

Began with research methods webinar

Syafiudin and Najhan’s participation in the PSYCHONATION 2026 began with a webinar they attended to learn about the SLR method. In that webinar, both of them learned the process of writing a scientific paper using a systematic method to gather and analyze previous research.

“In the beginning, we attended a webinar that discussed the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. One of the outputs of this webinar is a journal article or scientific paper,” said Syafiudin.

After finishing the paper, they found out that the topic they discussed is related to the theme of the PSYCHONATION 2026. Then they submitted the paper to the competition with several changes on its format and template specified by the organizing committee.

The use of SLR method also allowed them to discuss the topic of AI even though they’re from the Department of Historical Science. Syafiudin believes that this method is not limited only to one science field because it uses various secondary research sources as an analysis base.

Using SLR method for AI research mapping

Although they’re coming from Historical Science, the team discussed issues related to AI through a multidisciplinary approach. The SLR method allowed them to review various previous research systematically to map the development of AI education research, particularly as it relates to the Kurikulum Merdeka.

In the process, Syafiudin and Najhan used the 2020 Prism protocol by selecting approximately 400 journal articles based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, ultimately identifying about 40 articles for analysis. Najhan focused on the data collection, while Syafiudin handled the screening process.

“In the beginning, we were really at a complete loss, especially since this approach is quite unusual in the field of history. Fortunately, since there’s already been a lot of research using the SLR method, we sometimes refer to the published journals or discussions from those webinars,” Syafiudin said.

This victory marked as the team’s first experience in using the SLR method with the 2020 Prism protocol. They hoped that the resulting mapping will serve as a reference for future research, while promoting students to have the courage in conducting multidisciplinary research.
