Sixty Foreign Students Learn Culture in UNAIR

UNAIR NEWS – “Welcome in Universitas Airlangga. I hope you enjoy your stay and the learning activities. Are you ready?”, asked Prof. Dr. Drs. Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih, M.Si as the Executive Director of  Airlangga Global Engagement in Orientation event for AMERTA VII, in Kahuripan 300 Management Office Building on August 10. All attendance answered chorally that they were ready.

There were at least 50 participants from total 60 participants of AMERTA VII program. They were from various countries in the world such as Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Germany, Holland and France. In the first day of orientation, they were introduced with UNAIR Campus and the regulations for the six-month-program. The orientation was held for two days, Thursday and Friday, August 10-11.

AMERTA (Academic Mobility Exchange for Undergraduate at Airlangga) is an educational program of Airlangga Global Engagement for bachelor’s degree students from the rest of the world to know more Indonesian culture. This program has been organized since 2014. Every year, students participating in AMERTA is growing in number.

In the orientation, Prof. Nyoman also explained that all participants not only get academic educations from their majors but they will also learn Indonesian in UNAIR Pusat Bahasa. She also expected them to hone their soft skills through student activities.

“We will be pleased in you can join our student activity unit (UKM) or other activities,” said the professor of Faculty of Science and Technology.

Besides Prof. Nyoman, there was also Dian Ekowati SE., M.Si., M.AppCom(OrgCh)., Ph.D, as the executive secretary  AGE, Irfan Wahyudi S.Sos., M.Comms. as the Head of International Program Division, and some buddies from students. The buddies will accompany the AMERTA participants during their stay in Surabaya.

“I was interested in the program. I want to learn more about the culture of Indonesia and try new things here with other participants,” stated Sokthe Thouk, one of the foreign students from Cambodia. (*)
